There is a racial and socioeconomic divide in this country when it comes to the quality of healthcare available to individuals. Real
disparities persist when it comes to investing in new drugs and treatments for diseases that afflict primarily minority populations. And people
of color have traditionally been under-represented in clinical trials, which has profound implications for understanding how new drugs interact with
diverse physiologies.
NABB is working to advance the biosciences through initiatives such as:
- Awareness Development (AD): The AD program promotes the development of cultural competence in BIO as a potential strategy to
improve quality and eliminate racial/ethnic disparities in health care. Motivation for the AD program is to create specialized healthcare education
conferences, seminars, and workshops for industry, government, and clinical science thought leaders to provide case-study analysis and solutions
to sector-specific problems in minority healthcare
- Key Opinion Leader (KOL) Development: The KOL development program will identify recruit, train, and manage a core group of
national and international experts in scientific, clinical, and regulatory affairs for peer-to peer communications of fair-balanced
educational messages related to products that target the healthcare needs of underserved minorities
